Neuromorphic

The mission of the neuromorphic workgroup of the Edge AI Foundation is to inspire, educate, federate, and build on academic-industrial synergies to address the grand challenges of neuromorphic computing, empower a broader audience, and offer long-term support for open developments.

Charter & Goals

Overview

  • Work Group Mission Statement:

Our mission is to build an ecosystem for neuromorphic computing at the edge, bringing together industrial and academic partners to create synergies around benchmarks, software support, applications, and research. We aim to build a vibrant neuromorphic community within the EDGE AI foundation, enabling the future of AI at the edge.

  • Key Definitions:
    • Neuromorphic: any compute platform or paradigm on the spectrum that takes inspiration from biology for improved performance or efficiency
  • Purpose:
    • establish joint academic-industrial partnerships on neuromorphic developments and knowledge transfer (e.g., internships),
    • offer a forum to bring together broad initiatives and consortia,
    • long-term home and support for open-source neuromorphic initiatives and developments,
    • contribute educational initiatives on current blind spots or emerging developments in neuromorphic computing,
    • establish a healthy funding platform toward supporting early or long-term developments
    • working with the community towards standardisation
  • Co-Chair make up:
    • Petrut Bogdan
    • <Temporarily vacant>
  • Target Audience
    • User groups: potential beneficiaries of neuromorphic technologies and paradigms
    • Developers of neuromorphic technologies from academia and industry, ideally with a focus on productisation rather than basic science
